Madeira
This year we went for holiday to the Portuguese island of Madeira. In one week we explored various great photography spots and hiked along a number of the famous Levada walks.
A typical weather constellation in Madeira – the lower altitudes are covered in clouds, while on the top of the mountains you can see the sunset. However, as the actual sunset was obstructed by the clouds at the horizon, this picture was taken a few minutes earlier.
After the actual sunrise was covered by the clouds, the fog cleared a bit to reveal the sun and the trees on the hills east from Pico das Cruzes.
A famous Madeira destination are the 25 springs in the western mountains of Madeira.
At the northern shore of Madeira, you find this rock formation next to the town of Ribeira da Janela. That day, a few minutes before sunrise, we had a clear sky with nice and soft pastel colors.
We had already stayed one evening in Porto Moniz trying to capture a nice sunset, but the sky was just grey. At our second attempt, we were rewarded with a colorful sky and a wild sea.

One of our favorite locations on Madeira is the eastern peninsula of São Lourenço. We have gone for sunrise and sunset and it is amazing every time.
